Latin American Studies Minor

Bloomsburg University's Latin American Studies Minor provides students with an interdisciplinary approach to the study of Latin America. The 18 credit minor offers students the opportunity to select courses from a variety of departments, including Anthropology, Languages and Cultures, English, and History. In addition to gaining experience with Spanish, Latin America's main language, students will gain a broad, comparative view of the region, viewing it through a multidisciplinary lens.

Latin America is an increasingly important part of the global economy, and its political and cultural impact on the United States is significant. Through immigration, trade agreements, business, tourism, education, science, language, music, and the arts, the borders between the US and Latin American nations have become increasingly fluid. Through the minor, students pursuing careers in human services, health care, business, education, the applied social sciences, and the arts can develop and demonstrate to future employers the knowledge necessary to work effectively with diverse populations.

In addition to developing knowledge valuable in the workplace, students completing the minor will be better equipped to appreciate and interpret our increasingly multicultural society.
