Many goals, many options

Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania welcomes many different types of students to its nearly 120 programs of study.

About ten percent of BU students are "non-traditional" and another ten percent are enrolled in graduate degree programs. About 17 percent of BU students transfer from somewhere else.

Among traditional incoming freshmen, 60 percent are women and 40 percent men, all of whom graduated in the upper quarter of their high school class with at least a strong B average. Typical SAT scores are 535 math, 535 verbal. Most come from throughout the eastern third of Pennsylvania.

Jacquelyn Teresky, a senior biochemistry from Newtown, Pa., and graduate of Council Rock North High School, recently presented 'Evaluating Restriction Endonucleases for Identifying Flanking Sequences of (ATG)n Microsatellite' as part of a summer research symposium held by the College of Science and Technology. She chose BU because it was in state and affordable and began as a biology major but settled into biochemistry with minors in biology and political science. She plans to go on to graduate school to prepare for a career either in biotechnology or environmental and patent law.
