Economics (B.A., B.S.)

As an economics major at Bloomsburg, you'll get a systematic study of the economic activities of business, household and government and choose from three different options.

Economics includes tracks of concentrated study in political and business economics. Economics majors can enhance their education with minors and concentrations in a variety of fields, including management, accounting, marketing, finance, political science and information systems."

General study of economics is ideal for students interested in graduate school or a career in the public or private sector. Economics with a business minor is best for those interested in analytical economics and graduate work or careers in business or government. Political economics focuses on preparation for careers dealing with political an international problems in the public arena or plans for advanced study in the field.

The core of the curriculum enables you to master basic principles of economics, to develop analytical skills and to interpret economic phenomena. You'll take two courses in economic principles, followed by micro-theory and managerial economics and macroeconomic theory, along with business and economics statistics.

Working with one of the nine economics professors who serve as your advisor, you'll then organize elective courses and general education requirements to tailor a program of study to your specific interests and career directions. With an average of five classes each semester, typical students obtain their degree in eight semesters of study.

The three programs vary in specific economics courses you'll take:

Economics majors will study international economics, econometrics, public finance, money and banking, economic development, and political economy.

Those in the business track take courses in financial and.... take courses in financial and managerial accounting, principles of management, international economics, marketing principles and practices, econometrics, corporate finance, money and banking, and public finance.

Political track students take courses in government, business and government, public administration theory, advanced political economy, and contrasting economics

Your faculty includes nine professors, all with doctoral degrees, from varied backgrounds, international perspective and with a equally varied research interests.

Among student organizations of interest to economics majors is the honor society Omicron Delta Epsilon, Tau chapter. The chapter activities range from invited speakers, group discussions, dinners, meetings, and field trip o special projects such as review sessions and tutoring for students in economics.
