Kimberly Cardimona, instructor, English as a Second Language (ESL)


Kimberly Cardimona, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of TESOL (teaching English to speakers of other languages) and coordinator of the International Speech and Language Center in the Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology.

Prior to her arrival at Bloomsburg University, Cardimona worked as an ESL program specialist for k-12 Japanese, German, and private schools as well as international businesses and corporations. During her fifteen year residency in Germany, Cardimona owned and operated an international kindergarten and English language school for children and adults.

She came to the United States in the fall of 2001, was awarded certificates in ESL and German, earned her M.S. in Education (2002), M.S. in Instructional technology (2004), and Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Language and Literacy Education (2011). Before finishing her Ph.D., she developed and taught online and traditional graduate courses in ESL at Penn State and Misericordia Universities and worked as a full time German and ESL Teacher for Pennsylvania public schools.

Her research interests include mathematics instruction for teachers of ELLs, assessment policy and practice, and improving methods used to identify language disorders in English language learners and bilingual children.
