Africa Abroad Located in west-central Africa, Cameroon has been described as a microcosm of the continent. Linguists have identified almost all of the African Language groups in Cameroon. Superimposed upon this ethno-linguistic diversity are the remnants of a triple colonial heritage - German, British, and French - shaping the cultural landscape of the country.

  • Korup Rain Forest and Pamol Plantations in Ndian Division
  • Botanical Garden, rubber and banana plantations, and Seme beach in Limbe
  • Foumban Palace and the Bamenda region
  • Pigmy village in Kribi
  • City tours of Yaounde and Douala
  • Fako Mountain and its recent volcanic eruption
  • Handicraft centers in Bamenda and Foumban
  • Nursery and Primary Schools

About Ethiopia

Africa Abroad As one of the oldest cultures in the world, Ethiopia offers students the opportunity to explore another side of Africa with links to ancient civilizations and extremely rich heritage.

Specific field trips and sights planned:

  • National Museum in Addis Ababa houses the fossils of Lucy from about 3.5 million years ago. (A replica of Lucy's skeleton.)
  • Mt. Entoto with palace of Emperor Melenik II
  • Cultural restaurant in Addis Ababa with a performance of traditional dances
  • Addis Ababa University
  • Merkato, one of the largest open-air markets in Africa
  • Sodere Hotsprings and Kuriftu Resort
