Bloomsburg University CDL Class A Prep Course 172-Hour Course Outline

Course Overview:

The 172-hour Commercial Driver's License Prep Course is designed to prepare you to take and pass your State CDL written and skills tests.

Module 1: Basic Operations is classroom instruction, taught using visual aids and handouts, with instructor lecturing using the Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's Manual along with the Tractor-Trailer Handbook/Workbook. There are daily homework assignments and CDL practice tests, as well as module tests, which make up 75% of the classroom grade. The remaining 25% of the grade is based on classroom participation. At the end of Module 1, you will be referred to a testing facility to take your state-administered CDL written tests.

Module II: Basic Control Skills I will introduce you to the four basic skills: (1) Straight Line Backing, (2 and 3) Sightside and Blindside Backing, and (4) the Alley Dock. You will also practice proper shifting techniques on the range prior to entering the road. The majority of the time will be spent continuously practicing the control skills needed to pass the CDL driving test.

Module III: Vehicle Control Skills II will run concurrently with Module II. You will alternate between range activities and driving on the road. In this module you will be taught and must demonstrate safe driving practices in preparation for your Class A CDL Road Skills Test. Your range and road skills will be tested prior to taking your Class A CDL Skills Tests.

Bloomsburg University CDL Class B Prep Course 80-Hour Course Outline

Course Overview:

In this course, you will obtain the skills necessary to obtain a Class B Commercial Drivers License/CDL. Upon completion of the course, you will be capable of obtaining entry-level employment as a Class B driver (straight truck or passenger bus).

Module 1: Basic Operations is taught using visual aids and handouts, with Instructor lecturing using the Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's Manual along with the Tractor-Trailer Handbook/Workbook. You will complete daily homework assignments, CDL practice tests, and module tests, which make up 75% of the classroom grade. The remaining 25% of the grade is based on classroom participation.
