CGA President

John Caserta - President (cgapres@bloomu.edu)

What’s up everyone! My name is John Caserta and I am a junior majoring in Political Science and Arabic. I am from the area everyone describes as “right outside of Philadelphia”. To be exact, I live in Feasterville, Bucks County. I joined CGA during my first semester as an on campus senator and the Treasurer of the Class of 2018 and I have not regretted a second of my time spent with CGA! During my sophomore year, I was on the Exec Board of CGA as the Parliamentarian. Despite my endless involvement with CGA, I am also a Mentor for the Compass Living and Learning Community and Treasurer of the Arabic club. One of my many goals as President of CGA is to get our name out there on campus and educate you, the students, on how CGA can make your four years here at Bloomsburg, a great four years. That being said, look out for events and other activities hosted by CGA and stop by! If you see me around on campus and have questions or concerns, don’t be afraid to stop me!

Sarah Bartra - Vice President (cgavp@bloomu.edu)

Hey everyone! My name is Sarah Bartra and I am a senior Communication Studies and Biological Allied Health Major, with a minor in Spanish. At Bloomsburg University, I am a part of the Personal Money Management Club, Honors Program and Lambda Pi Eta. One of my strongest commitments, since I started here three years ago, is being a part of the Community Government Association (CGA). In CGA, I have gotten the opportunity to meet amazing people, grow as a leader and become an active member of this community. This year, I am extremely excited and honored to be serving as your Student Government Vice President. As Vice President, I hope to continue sharing my passion for CGA and to work towards making this University an even better one. Let’s make this 2016-2017 school year the best one yet! GO HUSKIES!

Arden Shiller - Secretary (cgasec@bloomu.edu)

Hey Huskies! My name is Arden and I am from Yardley, PA. I am a junior, dual major in Early Childhood and Deaf Education, with a minor in ASL. I am Secretary of CGA, the President of The Class of 2018, part of the club Students Linked to the Education of the Deaf, and I’m also a tour guide for prospective students. I am extremely passionate about Bloomsburg University and love being involved. I chose BU because of the beautiful campus and when I took my first step on it, I felt like I was at home! I joined CGA my freshman year when I was elected class president because I wanted to make friends and become more involved. Since then, I became Secretary and I continued being involved because I want to enhance Bloomsburg’s campus to be the best that it can be. I enjoy working with faculty and being the voice of the student body because I’m here to make a difference at Bloomsburg University!

Rebecca Demuth - Historian (rjd33783@huskies.bloomu.edu)

Hey guys! My name is Rebecca DeMuth, but you may know me as Becca. I am a senior dual major in Communication Studies and Geography and Planning with a minor in Law and Legal Studies. This will be my 4th year on CGA, and my third year on the Executive Board. While serving on the CGA I have been very active in events such as Meet the President, the Breast Cancer 5k, and The Big Event. Outside of CGA, I am active in NCASC, intramural softball, LPE, and Phi Kappa Phi. This year I will be returning as a CA in Mount Olympus Apartments, also. My main goal as a member of the CGA in the 2016-2017 school year is to further educate students on the CGA’s presence throughout the University and to make the general population more comfortable in turning to our Senators for representation. Please help me reach my goal this year; if you have any comments, concerns or just want to chat about anything feel free to stop me on campus!

Billy Turner - Parliamentarian (wpt30784@huskies.bloomu.edu)

Hey everyone! My name is William P. Turner and I am currently a sophomore here at Bloomsburg University. I grew up in a part of Pennsylvania that is not really known for its sports but it is known for its tourist attractions and close proximity to New York City. I am talking about the Greater Pocono region of Monroe County. Specifically, I grew up in ‘A Pocono Country Place’ or A.P.C.P. residential community. I attended Pocono Mountain West High School and proudly graduated in 2015 as the Varsity Captain of my high school cross country team and as a varsity track and field athlete. I like to volunteer my free-time to various clubs, organizations, and nonprofits not only around Bloomsburg but back home as well. Going through high school being involved in sports, I thought it fitting to be heavily involved on- and off-campus.

I am in several groups that are as follows: the Center for Leadership and Engagement (C.L.E.), the Husky Summit Planning Committee (H.S.L.S.), the Spring Fest Planning Committee, an On-Campus Senator for the Community Government Association (C.G.A.), a volunteer for AGAPE humanitarians, and so many more as of my freshman year. As I went through my freshman year, I became a C.L.E., level-3 certified student and a proctor for public speaking/QUEST workshops with the C.L.E.

As of this year, I am a Community Assistant for Elwell West Third Floor the upcoming fall/spring semesters. As my freshman year progressed onward I only further engulfed my time and my life in the importance of the C.G.A. I moved from being a member of the C.G.A. student senate to being the Parliamentarian of the C.G.A. Executive committee at the beginning of my sophomore year. As I look back on my life, I can honestly say that one of the best choices I ever made was committing Mondays’ to the C.G.A. and the amount of hope I see for our student body and its future here at Bloomsburg. This institution may be a university but to me it is HOME, and this home breeds a pack that I will never leave. #BLOOMSBURGUCGA

Katie Mullen

Katie Mullen - Student Trustee (kdm14209@huskies.bloomu.edu)

Hello, my name is Katie Mullen and I serve Bloomsburg University as your Student Trustee. When my brother found out I was appointed to the Trustee position, he asked if I could award him with free tuition as an entering freshman. To his dismay, I don’t have the ability to waive tuition; however I do participate in conversations regarding university fees, facility maintenance, and new majors or minors added to existing colleges. I was introduced to CGA last year and have greatly valued my experience as an executive board member.

I grew up in Bloomsburg, but do not consider myself a, “townie” because I live outside of the Town of Bloomsburg. I am a senior Chemistry major and a medical school hopeful. I am actively involved in Quest and love to play outside. If you let me, I will convince you to try slacklining. I am a member of the Honors Program and on the leadership team for Catholic Campus Ministry. This year I hope to accurately represent the student voice at Council of Trustee meetings. I would like every student to know the role and function of CGA and the Council of Trustees and how these boards serve you as a student.
