The University Safety and Police Department consists of 25 employees; eighteen commissioned Police Officers, (seven functioning in a supervisory capacity) enforcing Pennsylvania Crime and Vehicle Codes and University Policies. Two security officers monitor parking. The department has a full-time safety professional. The balance of the employees performs clerical and dispatching duties.
 

Police officers are trained in first aid procedures and CPR with one specializing as the first responder. Contained within the department is a sexual assault specialist. Commissioned armed officers enforce university policies and the Pennsylvania Crime and Vehicle Codes. University and Pennsylvania regulations pertaining to alcohol, drugs and fire safety are strictly enforced by officers. A student escort service operates from the office and is available nightly from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Parking permits can be obtained during regular business hours, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Limited additional hours are posted at the office for the onset of fall, spring, and summer semesters. Visitors can obtain a pass at BUPD any time, day or night. Parking regulations and restrictions can be obtained at the police department. All vehicles brought to campus must be registered with the University Police. Parking is strictly enforced. Parking tickets are $15.00, and can accumulate on an hourly basis.

Firearms and/or weapons are not permitted in vehicles or on campus property. Student hunters may store their guns at the police station. Certified safety personnel and staff are available during normal business hours from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The department investigates accidents, oversees fire preparedness and establishes and monitors safety programs, policies and procedures.

The Safety and Police Office is located in the lower level of the University Store and is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. For information regarding police and safety, call 570-389-4168. Safety personnel can be reached during normal business hours Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 570-389-4792 or 570-389-4775. Fire and police emergencies should be reported to 570-389-4168 and medical emergencies at 911. Emergency call boxes are located across the campus. The call box permits direct voice communication to university police personnel.
