State Authorization for Online and Distance Education at Bloomsburg University


Due to Federal and State regulations all universities offering online courses, online degrees, and face to face activities in states other than their own must meet the unique State Authorization requirements for each state.

Working with the other PASSHE schools, Bloomsburg University is continuously working to evaluate and comply with these changes and will provide specific state authorization information as it becomes available.

Prospective Online and Distance Education Students from States Other than PA

If you are a legal resident of a state or territory other than Pennsylvania and would like to enroll in an online degree, online certificate, or online courses offered by Bloomsburg University you must first check the list below to verify that your home state has granted permission or authorization for you to take these classes from Bloomsburg University. Prospective online students residing in some states may be ineligible to apply for our online degrees, certificate, or courses if we are not authorized to operate in their state

For PA Resident Students

If you are interested in arranging an internship, clinical experience, practicum, student teaching, or field experience in a state other that PA first check the list below to verify if Bloomsburg University has been granted permission for you to complete these activities. Complaint Resolution

Bloomsburg University strives to provide the highest quality educational opportunities available. However, if a conflict does arise, our efforts are meant to resolve your grievances, complaints, and concerns in an expeditious, fair, and amicable manner.

Online students who have a grievance, complaint, or concern related to a particular Bloomsburg University online course should first contact the faculty member to try to resolve the matter, in accordance with the procedures and policies outlined on the Bloomsburg University Policies and Procedures website. http://www.bloomu.edu/policies_procedures/3592

Students who are unable to resolve the issue through the faculty member, the department chair, and/or the dean may submit a complaint in writing via email to Mr. Tom Fletcher, Vice President, Strategic Enrollment Management and Director of Distance Education at tfletche@bloomu.edu.

Online students who have a general grievance, complaint, or concern unrelated to a particular Bloomsburg University Online course may also submit their concerns through the same process as described above.

Please note that grievances, complaints, or concerns submitted via this process with regard to a particular course, program or department may be forwarded and discussed with the faculty member, department or academic dean for resolution.

Online students who have exhausted all efforts to satisfactorily resolve a complaint in a timely manner through Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania’s academic grievance procedure may file a complaint with Bloomsburg University’s state approval and licensing entities, the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education and the Pennsylvania Department of Education, or its accreditor, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

Students located outside Pennsylvania while attending Bloomsburg University may also choose to contact the appropriate higher education entity in their state, a list of which is maintained by the State Higher Education Executive Officers (SHEEO).
