ELL Credit Bearing Courses

The goal of the ELL Credit Bearing Courses is to have students succeed in each individual course as well as in their other courses. Ultimately, students will carry their success with them throughout their career and beyond. These courses are appropriate for current students who are non-native speakers of English as well as international students who need to fulfill their 6 credits of ESL for conditional admission.

Academic Speaking and Listening for ELLS

Topics may include:

  • Comprehension of familiar and unfamiliar topics, in addition to taking notes from lectures and other media sources
  • Dialects, pronunciation, and repair strategies for discourse
  • Formal and informal presentations, speeches, and debates
  • Interview skills

Academic Reading and Reading for ELLS

Topics may include:

  • Academic reading
  • Study skills
  • English grammar and vocabulary building
  • Academic essays and research paper
