Bloom's Taxonomy


Best practice in writing student learning objectives is to use 'action' verbs, as in the following example:

"The student can independently apply ethical perspectives/concepts to an ethical question, accurately, and is able to consider full implications of the application."

Boom's Taxonomy of Learning is useful when writing outcomes or objectives for any of the three learning domains, Cognitive, Affective, and Psychomotor. In addition to the links below, the TALE Center has a section on its Teaching Resources page which provides more information on Bloom's Taxonomy.
