Give a gift of real estate or life insurance

Real estate

You can donate your primary residence, other home, farm or property to help students and the university.

Some donors give real estate while they continue to live in their home; some take advantage of various tax benefits while using real estate to create an income-producing trust; some simply contribute their real estate to the Foundation.

In most instances, the Foundation sells the real estate and uses the resulting funds to establish a scholarship fund, enhance academic programs or in some other way benefit the University.

Life insurance

You can name Bloomsburg University Foundation as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy or a percentage of its proceeds. A better idea may be to transfer actual ownership of the policy to the Foundation, assuming it is a "surplus" policy that is no longer needed for family security.

A family may take out an insurance policy when children are growing, but have no need for it later in life. Many times, they forget they even have the policy. Whole-life policies, particularly those which are paid in full, make great gifts to the Foundation. Since they often carry a substantial face value, they serve as a wonderful means of establishing an endowed scholarship or providing substantial funds for one of our academic programs.

Your gift will entitle you to an income tax deduction, and future premium payments, if any, will be tax deductible. Just contact the insurance company for appropriate forms.
