Invest in scholarships
It costs $12,000 a year to educate each BU student.
Only 36% of this cost is provided by the State and none of these funds may be used for scholarships. Tuition and fees charged to each student, supplemented by gifts through the BU Foundation, are expected to make up the other 64%.
More than 78% of BU students require financial assistance. If divided by all students with financial need, current donor-funded scholarships provide less than $150 per student.
Nearly 40% of qualified applicants to BU turn down admission because they can't afford to attend. We are losing the best students to other schools, simply because those institutions offer more scholarships.
Bloomsburg University needs your help to provide scholarships for our students-scholarships at any level and in every discipline.
You can allow the University to decide how to award your gift, or you can designate an academic department, college or sport.
Your gift may honor or remember an individual, a family or a favorite professor.
Scholarships can focus on a particular group of students, such as non-traditional or graduate, or be awarded on need or academic achievement.
Scholarships can be funded annually or permanently endowed. Endowing-where the Foundation keeps the principal intact and only spends a portion of the earnings each year-can be done for as little as $10,000 and paid over as many as five years.
In 2005-2006, scholarships totaling $986,042 were awarded to 736 students.
