Gospel Choir Co-advisor
Vickey has been with BU for more than 17 years as an employee after she completed her English Degree/Philosophy minor in 1993. She worked for eight years in both the Honors Program and the provost’s office, then moved to the Office of Social Equity in 2001 where she works currently.
In 2003, Vickey began teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) to adult immigrants in Berwick three evenings a week under the CSIU in Lewisburg and continues today. She began tutoring BU students in ESL in 2006, supporting students in both the Act 101/EOP and International Education Programs. She took additional courses at BU and earned teaching certification to become an ESL Program Specialist in 2006.
Gospel Choir members invited Vickey to be co-advisor to the group, and she graciously accepted saying, “I would be honored to be part of this loving and spiritual group.” For the past nine years, Vickey has been a full supporter of members of the Gospel Choir, providing assistance whenever needed as they prepared for religious and ceremonial performances.
Vickey earned the MLK Community Service Award in 2006, volunteers in the Big Brother/Big Sister Program, as a judge for BU Forensic Speech competitions, is a Cancer Society Neighborhood representative, serves as the Chairperson of the Act 101 Advisory Board, is a member of the CSW, the Diversity and Inclusion Task Force, and numerous other committees, and she loves poetry and dance.
She adores her daughter, Tracey, her two sons, Mac and Benjy, and her five grandchildren, Tommy, Savanna, Hannah, Sarah and Liam. Vickey expresses her life as one of fulfillment with Jesus, who has showered her with tremendous beauty and blessings.
