University Testing Services

University Testing Services is responsible for administering standardized testing at BU. Both paper and pencil examinations as well as computer-based exams are offered. We also proctor standardized exams for students distance education students and those attending other colleges and universities.

CLEPHelps students earn credit for what they already know, regardless of how that knowledge was acquired. (Computer-based)
GRESubject Exams: used for admission to many graduate programs. (Paper-based only)
MATAssesses your ability to recognize relationships between ideas, your fluency in the English language, and your general knowledge of literature, philosophy, history, science, mathematics, and fine arts. Used for graduate admissions. (Computer-based OR paper/pencil)
PRAXISProvides tests and other services for states to use as part of the teacher licensing and certification process. (Paper/pencil only)
Test ProctoringProvides test proctoring and distance education exam administration to students attending other colleges and universities. Fees apply. (Computer-based or paper-based)

CASTLE Worldwide Certification Exams

The internet-based CASTLE Worldwide Certification Exams are given by appointment only. Log in to : http://www.castleworldwide.com to create your CASTLE Worldwide account and access the sample tests. Please watch the short online demonstration to familiarize yourself with the testing software. For example, in these tests you can skip questions, go to previously answered items, mark items for later review, go to specific items, and review answers before submitting the test for scoring. Exams are administered monthly in the testing center within the Residence Life Office, Elwell Hall.

College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)

CASTLE Worldwide Certification Exams - Proctored online professional certification exams (internet-based)

The computer-based CLEP tests are given by appointment only. Fees: $70 test fee (payable by credit card on the day of the examination or in advance by check payable to "College Level Examination Program,") and a nonrefundable $20 administrative fee payable by check or money order to "Bloomsburg University."

Graduate Record Examination (GRE)

The GRE General Test is used for admission to many graduate programs. It is a computer-based test composed of two writing tasks plus one or two verbal sections and one or two quantitative (mathematical) sections. Some graduate programs may also require a GRE Subject Test. These are paper-based and cover eight subject areas. Check with your graduate program to see which tests are required for admission.

The GRE General Test is available as a computer-based test (CBT) only. BU is NOT a computer-based testing center for this exam. Visit the GRE website for a computer-based testing center close to you. BU does administer the paper/pencil GRE SUBJECT exams. Please register online at the GRE website.

Miller Analogies Test (MAT)

Paper-based and Computer-based MAT exams are administered monthly on Fridays in the testing center within the Residence Life Office, Elwell Hall. MAT registration booklets are available in the Residence Life Office (Elwell hall), at the Information Desk in Kehr Union, and in the Graduate Studies Office (2nd floor, Centennial Hall). Reporting times are 8:15 AM (paper/pencil), 9:45 AM (computer-based) and 12:45 PM (computer-based) depending upon your assigned testing time. It takes about 30 minutes to check in and complete the required demographic information.

When:Administered once each month on a Friday. Requests for individual testing on Monday-Thursday may be made by calling 570-389-4112.
Reporting Time:Assignments based on availability: 8:15 AM, 9:45 AM, or 12:45 PM.
Duration:1 hour 30 minutes
Fee:$70 payable by check or money order to "Bloomsburg University". Mail or drop off your payment at the Business Office in Waller Administration Building. The test fee cannot be refunded if you are absent from the exam. There is a $10 administrative fee to postpone your test date.
Registration:Send your completed MAT registration form along with payment to the Business Office.
After your fees are paid, your registration form and paid receipt go to the University Testing Office, a seat is assigned and a confirmation is sent to you. Should you be unable to keep your appointment for testing, we would appreciate a phone call.
Re-Test Admissions:If you have taken the Miller Analogies Test within the last 12 months, you should have received a re-test admission ticket with your score report. You must present the re-test admission ticket to take the test again within a 12-month period. Should you take the test without the re-test admission ticket, your test will be voided upon receipt by the testing company.
Scores/Reports:Take approximately 3-4 weeks. An unofficial score is available only for the computerized-test at the end of the exam, for your own information. Your Registration includes sending score reports to up to (3) three institutions of your choice. Scores can be sent to additional institutions for a fee. * social security card (or passport)
* the names/addresses of up to three institutions where you want your MAT scores sent.
Parking:Arrive early and go to Campus Police (Bookstore building) to get a guest parking pass. Parking is available in the tri-level parking garage next to Elwell hall.

Praxis

The Praxis Series provides tests and other services for states to use as part of the teacher licensing and certification process. Praxis I, the Pre-Professional Skills Tests (PPST), assesses your ability in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. Praxis II consists of one or two tests that measure your knowledge of your teaching field, before you may student teach. Praxis I may be taken in either the computer-based (not available at BU) or paper and pencil format (administered at BU) while Praxis II is only offered in the paper format (available at BU). Please contact ETS to schedule a computer-based PRAXIS-I test: www.ets.org/praxis

Standby Testing:ETS no longer honors requests for standby testing (walk-ins). You MUST be pre-registered for our test center to take these exams at BU.
Payment:All forms and monies must be submitted to ETS in Princeton, NJ.
