Self Care Unit

Self Care Unit The Student Health Center staff feels strongly that you are responsible, in part, for your own health. Certain conditions do deserve the attention of a health care professional, but there are other common temporary situations which can be safely self treated.

In an effort to encourage self responsibility for your health care, we have established a Self Care Unit for colds and minor injuries. This unit offers you the option to evaluate your own health condition, determine if you can safely self treat, and proceed through posted instructions to care for yourself.

Self Care Unit Contains

  • Over the counter cold medicines
  • Cough drops
  • Tylenol
  • Anti-biotic ointment
  • Band-aides
  • Condoms (limit 2 per student per visit!)

Pamphlets about burns, cold/flu, UTIs, and wound treatment are also available. These items are free and available to students inside the health center doors during the hours that the clinic is open.

A major goal of the health center is illness prevention. We believe that we have information which may help you stay healthier through your college years and beyond. Therefore, we can provide information, individual consultation and referral to appropriate resources.
