Employee Self Service (ESS)

IE8 Compability

ESS has not been fully certified yet for Microsoft's new browser Internet Explorer 8. Users with IE 8 should add "portal.passhe.edu" to the compatibility view sites list in the IE 8 properties page.

Logging into ESS:

Effective Tuesday, August 11 at 5PM, there will be an important change to the way your computer login and ESS passwords work.

Please note the following changes:

Change your regular computer login password on the effective date/time noted above. Once you've done that, your ESS (Employee Self Service) password will also be automatically changed. You will no longer have to maintain a separate password for ESS.

The password format will be a little more complex:

It’s important to note that you must change your password at least once for your ESS password to be synchronized. You should not change your password until after 5PM on Aug 11.

There are two ways to change your password:

What if I forget my password?

There are three different ways to handle this situation.

1. Log into the newly available reset system at password.bloomu.edu (**See info about new password reset system below**)

2. If logged into Webmail, click the “Reset My Password” link.

3. Click the “Forgot my password…” button on your computer login screen. (Note that this feature is currently being deployed and may not be available yet on all computers.)

About the password reset system

The new system will ask you three questions:

  1. What are the last 4 digits of your ISO number?
Your ISO number is printed on the bottom right of your university identification card.
  2. What is your birth date? (MM/DD/YYYY)
Make sure you enter the slashes, full year and leading zeros
    (example) 01/02/1959
  3. What is your employee number?
    Your employee ID number.

Note: The password reset system is only available for University employees.

  1. Non-employees, for the time being, will still need to contact the help desk to have their password reset.
  2. Students should use the student password reset page at reset.bloomu.edu.

Invalid Login Attempts

After five (5) invalid login attempts (i.e., entering the wrong password when logging onto your computer, using webmail, or accessing the ESS system), an account will be locked for ten (10) minutes.

When using the password reset tool, if there are three (3) invalid attempts to reset a password (i.e. invalid answers to the 3 questions), the password reset system will unavailable for one hour.

Still need assistance?

If you still need assistance after trying to reset your password, please enter a help desk ticket.
