Job Title: ASL Tutor

(State University Administrator I - SUA 1)

Position Description: The ASL tutor will assist students with the development of ASL skills and abilities to support their academic goals. This is a part-time position and the incumbent must be willing to work on a flexible schedule.

Qualifying Experience/Education: Master’s degree is strongly preferred, especially those with degrees in teaching ASL, Deaf Studies, or Interpreting. Bachelor’s degree and fluency in ASL required. Responsible, mature, fluent in ASL, knowledge of Deaf Culture; and excellent interpersonal skills. Familiar with Signing Naturally textbooks and Bloomsburg’s ASL/English Interpreting Program’s curriculum. Finalist(s) for this position must communicate well and successfully complete an interview. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations is required.

Applicants will be rated on the following criteria:

1) Experience working with college students or adults is required

2) Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations is required

3) Excellent communication skills experience in ASL is required

Term of Appointment: Temporary part-time (20 hours per week), 13 weeks during semester. Not to extend beyond May 10, 2013

Appointment Date: January, 2013

Salary: $19.23 per hour
