Academic Enrichment

The Department of Academic Enrichment at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania seeks to establish a pool of faculty applicants to provide high impact experiences, such as focusing on the environment or historical trends of African Americans in the U.S., for first year Act 101 students. Research indicates that high impact practices enhance student retention and completion rates for those participating in the program. Successful applicant will teach or facilitate group sessions using creative educational strategies involving the fundamentals of research and/or scholarship focusing on STEM, Humanities, Education, or Social Sciences for students in the Act 101 Program. These creative educational strategies should be designed to enhance student engagement in learning, excitement about learning, and commitment to a career and major. Expected outcomes of this transitional work include: higher GPAs, greater first and second year retention rates, and an increase in completion rates. The successful candidate should also possess the unique ability to facilitate mentor/mentee relationships with students.

Requirements:  Master’s degree in the discipline or related field to be taught or facilitated. The successful candidate will provide evidence of working with college students and working with underrepresented minority students at the college level.  Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations is required.

Preferred: Experience of working with similar high impact practices, as previously mentioned, involving first year underrepresented minority students at the college level; evidence of designing and delivering a high impact practice for underrepresented students at the college level, and evidence fostering mentor/mentee relationships.  The successful applicant will also have functioning knowledge of basic research or a scholarship practice that delivers results.

Recommendation for hiring will be made by the majority of regular full-time department members.  Finalist(s) for this position must communicate well and successfully complete an interview process and/or teaching demonstration, as judged by the department faculty.
