Thursday Keynote Speaker: Mr. Henry Cole

Henry Cole
Mr. Henry Cole was the beloved science teacher for many years at The Langley School in Virginia before turning his talents to children's book writing and illustrating. His award-winning titles include the Big Chickens books by Leslie Helakoski, And Tango Makes Three by Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell, the Little Bo series by Julie Andrews Edwards, and the Katy Duck series by Alyssa Capucilli, as well as his own A Nest for Celeste, On Meadowview Street, Unspoken: A Story from the Underground Railroad, and Jack's Garden. Originally from Virginia, Henry now spends his time between there and Florida.


Friday Keynote Speaker: Dr. W. Ian O'Byrne

Ian O'Byrne
Dr. W. Ian O'Byrne is an Assistant Professor of Educational Technologies at the University of New Haven. Ian is the coordinator of the Instructional Technology & Digital Media Literacy program in the Education Department at the University of New Haven. He is also a former Research Fellow at the New Literacies Research Lab at the University of Connecticut. He received his Masters of Education from the University of Massachusetts in the 180 Days Program. He has been involved in initiatives in school districts ranging from online and hybrid coursework, integrating technology in the classroom, ePortfolio systems, and supporting marginalized students in literacy practices. He is currently a member of AERA and NCTE, and currently serves on the Policy and Legislative Committee for Literacy Research Association, and the Technology, Communication, and Literacy committee for International Reading Association. His research examines the literacy practices of individuals as they read, write, and communicate in online spaces.
