Students graduate from BU on May 11 and 12

BLOOMSBURG — Approximately 1,125 students will take part in Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania’s undergraduate commencement ceremonies at Robert B. Redman Stadium Saturday, May 12.

Two BU faculty members will deliver the commencement addresses. Karl Kapp, professor of instructional technology, will speak at the 10 a.m. ceremony for the graduates in the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Science and Technology, and Joan Benek-Rivera, associate professor of management, will deliver the address at the 3 p.m. commencement for students from the College of Business and the College of Professional Studies.

Also during the ceremonies, the top honor graduates from each college will be recognized. They are: College of Business – Joseph Mensinger, Mifflinville, business administration/finance; College of Liberal Arts – D.J. Swank, Ringtown, English; College of Science and Technology: Ashley Yelinek, Youngwood, biology; and College of Professional Studies – Tanya Averson, New Castle, elementary education/education of the deaf and hard of hearing; Rachel Bedford, Schuylkill Haven, special education/elementary education; Leela Persaud, Gillett, speech pathology/audiology; and Lindsay Wenk, Gardners, early childhood education and Spanish.

Bloomsburg’s graduate commencement will be held Friday, May 11, at 6 p.m. in the Hass Center for the Arts. More than 200 master’s and doctoral candidates will participate in the ceremony.

Motorists are advised to avoid Lightstreet Road and the area around Country Club Drive due to anticipated traffic congestion on May 12.

Bloomsburg University is one of 14 universities in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. The university serves approximately 8,000 students, offering comprehensive programs of study in the colleges of Professional Studies, Business, Liberal Arts and Science and Technology.
