Catholic Campus Ministry expands staff at Bloomsburg University

For immediate release: Aug. 30, 2007

BLOOMSBURG — Sister Deborah Borneman of the Sisters of Saints Cyril and Methodius has been appointed associate director of Catholic Campus Ministry at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, where she serves students with the Rev. Donald Cramer, now in his second year at BU.

Sister Debbie worked at the Diocesan Office of Vocations in Harrisburg before completing a master's degree in pastoral studies at Loyola University in Chicago. A graduate of Slippery Rock University, she met Father Don 15 years ago at a diocesan retreat when both were discerning vocations. She said that 2001, the year he was ordained, was also the year she made her final profession of vows.
Noting that the Sisters of Saints Cyril and Methodius focuses on education, eldercare, evangelization and ecumenism, Sister Debbie said she is excited about becoming a part of the BU community by reaching out to students and helping to expand CCM's ministry program.

She plans to survey student interest in retreats, Bible study, religious instruction and service activities to support CCM, which is headquartered at Neumann House on College Hill, adjacent to BU’s campus. She said she is pleased with the high level of interest from more than 40 students she met at the recent activities fair and others she’s talked with at the interfaith Dollar Dinner hosted by CCM every Wednesday.

Sister Debbie believes that a college campus is for more than the acquisition of knowledge -- it's for personal growth, too. "Are they growing in their relationship with God?" she asks. "I hope to help through presence and availability."

Bloomsburg University is one of 14 universities in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. The university serves approximately 8,000 students, offering comprehensive programs of study in the colleges of Professional Studies, Business, Liberal Arts and Science and Technology.
