BLOOMSBURG — Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania and the Special Olympics Columbia Montour are hosting the fifth annual Invitational Special Olympics Bocce Bash. The event will be held Saturday, Oct. 25, at 9 a.m. in the Nelson Field House on upper campus.
Bocce is a traditional Italian sport of lawn bowling and BU’s annual tournament is the largest bocce event held in Pennsylvania. Special Olympics Columbia Montour has been working with the Bloomsburg University Council at numerous Special Olympic events and decided to team up and create the largest annual Bocce Bash event in the state.
The invitational invites bocce double teams to attend and enjoy a day of competition for medals, entertainment and food. BU’s tournament has successfully grown each year, initially beginning with twelve teams and now there are approximately fifty.
The Bocce Bash is now supported and sponsored by many university organizations that provide an overwhelming 150 volunteers for the day, in addition to the help of local business donations.
