‘Rent’s’ Adam Pascal to perform at BU
For immediate release: November 4, 2008
BLOOMSBURG — Actor, singer and songwriter Adam Pascal, best known for his portrayal of Roger in the musical, “Rent,” will perform at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania Saturday, Nov. 15, as a part of the Celebrity Artist Series. Tickets for the 8 p.m. show in Carver Hall, Kenneth S. Gross Auditorium, are $20 for adults and $10 for BU students and children under 12. The show is appropriate for all ages.
Accompanied by a full band, Pascal will sing the Broadway and classic rock songs that have formed and inspired his career – from Broadway tunes by composers Stephen Sondheim, Kander and Ebb, Jonathan Larson and Jason Robert Brown, to rock anthems from The Beatles, Billy Joel, Elton John and Pink Floyd. Highlights of the show will include “One Song Glory” from “Rent,” “Maybe This Time” from “Cabaret” and Billy Joel’s “New York State of Mind.”
Pascal originated the role of Roger Davis in Jonathan Larson’s Broadway production of “Rent” and, two years later, opened the musical’s London production. He earned a Tony and a Drama Desk nomination for best leading actor in a musical, a Theater World Award and an Obie for “outstanding new talent.” Pascal portrayed Roger again in the film version of “Rent” and will reprise his role in a new U.S. tour, starting in January 2009.
In 2000, he starred as Radames in the Broadway production of “Aida,” a musical written by Elton John and Tim Rice for which he earned a Drama League Award. Following “Aida,” Pascal was invited by the Roundabout Theater Company to be the final Emcee in the Tony-Award-winning revival of “Cabaret,” a musical by John Kadner and Fred Ebb.
All programs in the Celebrity Artist Series’ 23rd season are being presented in Carver Hall, Kenneth S. Gross Auditorium, while Haas Center for the Arts is renovated.
