National Teach-in on Global Warming

For immediate release: Feb. 8, 2010

BLOOMSBURG — The second annual National Teach-In on Global Warming Solutions will be held at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania's Kehr Union on Thursday, Feb. 18, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The keynote speech will be given by John C. Dernbach, environmental lawyer and law professor at Widener School of Law.

The event is part of a national effort on global warming and will feature faculty, staff and students from BU, as well as speakers from across the state. Events, held in Kehr Union's Hideaway and Ballroom, include:

  • 9:30 – 10:45 a.m.
    Session 1A – Climate Science and Climate Skeptics
    Session 1B – Student Debate on National Climate Legislation
  • 11 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
    Session 2 – Keynote Address
  • 12:30 – 1:45 p.m
    Session 3A – Copenhagen I: Student Simulation of the United Nations Climate Meetings, Focus on Emissions Trading
    Session 3B – Home Town Solutions: What BU and You Can Do About the Climate Crisis
  • 2 – 3:15 p.m.
    Session 4A – Copenhagen II: What’s Next?
    Session 4B – Fueling Pennsylvania – Current and Future Trends and Effect on Climate Change

Also planned is a "green" film festival beginning at 9:40 a.m. in Kehr Union's Hideaway and featuring four films and free popcorn. Films are National Geographic's "Human Footprint;" HBO's "Too Hot Not to Handle;" Warner Independent Picture's "The 11th Hour" and Oxi Productions' "Trashed."
