DRUMLine Live brings the beat BU

DRUMLine Live For immediate release: Feb. 8, 2011

BLOOMSBURG — After a 70-city international tour, "DRUMLine Live" will bring the high-energy sounds of marching band music to Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. The performance on Friday, Feb. 18, at 8 p.m. in Haas Center for the Arts, Mitrani Hall, is part of BU's 25th anniversary Celebrity Artist Series and Black History Month celebration. General admission is $30.

Created by the music team behind the movie "Drumline," this live rendition presents the sounds of brass hits by groups such as Earth, Wind, and Fire and Tower of Power alongside contemporary hip-hop and rhythm and blues. Eighty musicians and dancers recreate the style and energy long associated with the marching band tradition of America's historically black colleges and universities.

"We've taken the excitement of a halftime show, increased the intensity by a thousand watts and created a musical journey that will touch every emotion," said director Don P. Roberts.

"DRUMLine Live" is one of five remaining performances in this season's Celebrity Artist Series. Upcoming shows, all in Haas Center for the Arts, Mitrani Hall, are:

  • Hot 8 Brass Band, Friday, March 4, at 7 p.m. Tickets: $25
  • Rioult Dance Company, Saturday, March 26, at 8 p.m. Tickets: $30
  • "Spring Awakening," Friday, April 8, at 8 p.m. Tickets: $30
