BLOOMSBURG — The Bloomsburg University-Community Orchestra will perform its spring concert on Sunday, April 3, at 2:30 p.m., in BU’s Haas Center for the Arts, Mitrani Hall.

The concert is open free to the public.

Conducted by Mark Jelinek, professor of music, the 90-piece orchestra is made up of BU students, area professionals, music educators and area youth. The concert will feature the BU Women’s Choral Ensemble, conducted by Wendy Miller, professor of music.

The groups will perform a single classical piece, “The Planets,” Opus 32, composed by English composer Gustav Holst in 1917. The piece was privately debuted by the New Queen’s Hall Orchestra in London in 1918 and, according to Jelinek, has since been enduringly popular.

“Many of the players in the orchestra wanted to perform the piece,” says Jelinek. “It's really a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
