BLOOMSBURG — Composer Ted Rounds, a faculty member at Kent State University, will be the guest artist for the spring concert of Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania’s percussion ensemble.

The program on Wednesday, March 30, at 7:30 p.m. in Haas Center for the Arts, Mitrani Hall, is free and open to the public.

The concert will feature contemporary percussion works written or arranged within the past 20 years, ranging from duets to large ensemble pieces for 12 musicians. The program will include Rounds’ arrangement of a piece by jazz composer Ralph Towner, as well as a mallet ensemble arrangement of a Scott Joplin solo piano work. Most members of the ensemble are percussion music majors at BU.

Rounds joined the Kent State faculty in 1995 after teaching percussion at Ithaca College and Mansfield University. A 1978 graduate of the Eastman School of Music, Rounds previously worked as a freelance percussionist and a studio musician. Gifford Howarth, associate professor of music, theatre and dance and director of BU’s percussion ensemble, is one of Rounds’ former students.
