BLOOMSBURG — Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Percussion Ensemble will present a concert Tuesday, Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Haas Center for Arts, Mitrani Hall. Directing the concert is Gifford Howarth, associate professor in the department of music, theatre and dance. This event is free and open to the public.

Works will include solos, duets, quartets and large ensemble percussion pieces that were all originally written for percussion. Featured composers are:

- Steve Reich, whose works incorporate the structures, harmonies and rhythms of non-Western and American music, particularly jazz;

- Mitchell Peters, director of percussion ensemble at UCLA’s Herb Alpert School of Music and former principal timpanist and percussionist in the Los Angeles Philharmonic, who is known for marimba compositions;

- Nathan Daughtrey, visiting lecturer of percussion and music composition at High Point University in North Carolina and marimba/vibraphone soloist;

- Lynn Glassock, associate professor of music at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, who conducts the university’s Percussion Ensemble.
