Faculty members honored with ICS awards

ICS Awards For immediate release: April 30, 2012

BLOOMSBURG — Three Bloomsburg University faculty members recently received awards from BU’s Institute for Culture and Society (ICS). The awards are the Outstanding Achievement in Faculty Scholarship, the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Vermont Studio Center Fellowship.

The award recipients are:

  • Betina Entzminger is the recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Scholarship. This annual award recognizes scholarly excellence demonstrated in works such as published books, monographs and articles. Entzminger is the assistant chair of the English department and an associate English professor.

    She recently completed a book manuscript, “Contemporary Reconfigurations of American Literary Classics: The Origin and Evolution of Stories.” The book explores the compulsion of modern writers to revisit literary monuments of the American past.

  • Steven Ekema Agbaw is the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. This award honors continuous professional contribution to scholarship and professional work recognized inside and outside Bloomsburg University.

    Agbaw is a professor of English who recently published a scholarly book, “Black-white Doubling in the Fiction of William Faulkner.” Over his career, he has written or reviewed 15 articles and presented more than 40 professional papers. Agbaw created the first living and learning community at BU in 1999, the Frederick Douglass Institute.

  • Jason Godeke is the Vermont Studio Center Fellowship recipient. This annual award is selected by the Vermont Studio Center, located in Johnson, Vt., where 50 visual artists and writers spend four to 12 weeks at the largest residency program in the United States.

    Godeke is an associate professor of art and art history. Godeke plans to spend four weeks at the Vermont Studio Center in September creating new work that involves theatrical scenes related to a long tradition of drawing and painting.
