BLOOMSBURG — An afternoon of free entertainment, A Taste of the Arts, is planned for the Moose Exchange in downtown Bloomsburg, Saturday, Feb. 4, from 2 to 5 p.m.

Sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts, the event is designed to introduce the BU’s new Center for Visual and Performing Arts to the community.

Students and faculty in the art and art history, English, and music, theatre and dance departments will showcase their talents in the facility at 203 W. Main St., Bloomsburg.

While art exhibitions, theatrical productions, dance performances, recitals and other musical events, all open to the public, are held throughout the academic year, most of these events take place on campus. A Taste of the Arts will bring students’ talents to a central venue for the community to enjoy, said James Brown, dean of the College of Liberal Arts.

“We hope that by performing in a central location more community members will enjoy the talent and see the hard work our students put in throughout the year,” Brown said. “We are excited to bring A Taste of the Arts to local residents and pleased to partner with the Moose Exchange, which is quickly becoming a home to the arts in downtown Bloomsburg.”

This is the first step of a long-term plan set by the College of Liberal Arts.

“Currently, the Moose Exchange is a temporary venue to showcase our student’s talents,” Brown said. “In the future, we hope to find a permanent location so we can make these showcases more accessible to the community.”

The visual and performing arts showcase will feature performances by the Jazz Ensemble, Dance Ensemble, Pep Band, Husky Singers and BU Players, along with readings and art displays.
