BLOOMSBURG — How can the social media networks college students use in their personal lives become powerful tools in their professional lives? Dawn Edmiston, assistant professor of management and marketing at St. Vincent College and marketing consultant to the Fred Rogers Center, will discuss her 10-step process, “Developing POP! A Professional Online Presence,” Tuesday, March 5, at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. Group presentations at 10 a.m. in Sutliff Hall, room 102, and 3 p.m. in Hartline Science Center, Kuster Auditorium, are open to the public free of charge.

“Developing POP!” came about after Edmiston’s students at St. Vincent College told her traditional career search methods no longer seemed to be effective. The resulting process emphasizes how to establish a personal brand, develop compelling content, engage audiences and measure the impact of social media efforts.

Edmiston has more than 20 years of marketing experience in consulting, education and media. She served in management roles with Discovery Channel, IBM and PricewaterhouseCoopers and taught at Howard University, Johns Hopkins University, Trinity College and West Virginia University. She received the 2011 Marketing Management Association AxcessCapon Teaching Innovation Award and the 2012 Middle Atlantic Association of Colleges of Business (MAACBA) Innovation in Teaching Prize.

She earned a Doctor of Management from the University of Maryland University College, an MBA from Columbia University, a bachelor’s degree from Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute and an associate’s degree from Elmira College. An alumna of the international exchange program at London Business School, she blogs at www.theMarketingProf.com.

“Personal branding and a consistent message are essential to anyone’s online presence,” said Catherine McGinnis, ZIPD program manager. “Dr. Edmiston will share her expertise on the importance of knowing how to positively use social media, especially when pursuing a career.”

Edmiston’s BU presentation is sponsored by the College of Business and Zeigler Institute for Professional Development. For information, contact McGinnis, cmcginni@bloomu.edu or (570) 389-4855.
