Percussion Ensemble offers concert

For Immediate Release: April 2, 2013

BLOOMSBURG — Bloomsburg University’s Percussion Ensemble will present a concert on Tuesday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Haas Center for the Arts, Mitrani Hall. The program is open to the public free of charge.

The most original arrangement in the program, according to Gifford Howarth, professor of music and conductor, is Samuel Barber’s “Adagio for Strings,” which is featured in many television shows, commercials and movies. Usually performed by string orchestras, Barber’s piece has been arranged for a marimba orchestra by Howarth.

The concert’s program also includes Matt Savage’s “Spirits Rising,” Paul Goldstaub’s “Six Slick Stix Click Licks” and Alice Gomez’s “Marimba Flamenca.”

Students Josh Nesmith and Kyle Richards will perform solos while the concert also explores percussion duets, trios, quartets and septets.

Bloomsburg University is one of 14 universities in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. BU serves approximately 10,000 students, offering comprehensive programs of study in the colleges of Education, Business, Liberal Arts and Science and Technology.
