BU apartments to be named in Kozloff's honor

BLOOMSBURG — The new apartments on Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania's upper campus will be christened with a familiar name when they open this fall. The university's Council of Trustees voted unanimously at the June 3 quarterly meeting to name the facility the Jessica S. Kozloff Apartment Complex in honor of BU's president emeritus.

Kozloff retired in December 2007 after nearly 14 years as the university's president. Among her priorities, Trustee Joseph Mowad noted, was "a passion for safe student housing." The $31 million Kozloff apartments will house 544 students in three, four-story buildings.

In other action, the Trustees endorsed a new graduate-level program, the Master of Arts in Public Policy and International Affairs. Pending approval from the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Board of Governors, the master's program will help to prepare students for public policy positions in state and federal government.

During his report, BU President David Soltz reported that summer college enrollment has increased by about 5 percent over last year. He also announced that he now is writing a weekly blog, http://bupresident.blogspot.com, and that the university is reaching out to students and their families, alumni and friends through Facebook and Twitter.

The Trustees also:

• Passed the annual resolution affirming that campus buildings and grounds are being properly maintained. Trustees toured the new Kozloff apartments and Bakeless Center for the Humanities, currently undergoing renovation.
• Approved the Red Flag Identity Theft Prevention Program. Richard Rugen, vice president for administration and finance, said the program is a formalization of established policy in compliance with procedures established by the Federal Trade Commission.
• Recognized retired members of the BU community who received emeritus status. Faculty emeriti are Dianne Angelo, speech pathology and audiology; Karl Beamer, art; Shelley Randall, educational studies and secondary education; and Dale Sultzbaugh, sociology, social work and criminal justice. Manager emeriti are Kathy Mulka, admissions, and Roy Smith, Quest, and non-instructional emeriti are William Sponseller, financial aid, and John Stockalis, admissions.
• Learned of the following new division names: College of Education (formerly College of Professional Studies), Department of Management Information Systems and Computer Information Systems (formerly the Department of Computer Information Systems), Department of Information and Technology Management and Business Education (previously Department of Business Information Systems and Business Education), Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Information and Technology Management (formerly BSBA in Business Information Systems), Department of Communication Studies (formerly Department of Communication Studies and Theatre Arts) and Department of Music, Theatre Arts and Dance (previously Department of Music).
