Blake named Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
Dear Campus Community,
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ira Blake as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. This appointment was made in consultation with my executive staff, APSCUF leadership, and the Office of the Chancellor of PASSHE, as well as informal discussions with many members of our university community.
One outcome of my recent formal evaluation was the need to stabilize our administration by reducing the number of interim positions. A major step in finalizing my leadership team and solidifying the leadership of Academic Affairs is realized through continuing the strong working relationships that Dr. Blake has established as interim provost.
The need for stability in our administrative leadership with someone with her experience and talents as an academic administrator is even more important in coping with and recovering from the developing budget crisis.
We’ve seen firsthand Dr. Blake’s passion for academic excellence, especially evident during the restructuring of general education, the further development and implementation of learning outcomes assessment and last year’s strategic planning process.
A thoughtful leader, she consults extensively with our faculty and staff, key stakeholders within PASSHE, and other institutions of higher education, considering all viewpoints when making decisions that affect Academic Affairs. Particularly valuable to our university’s continuing academic success is Dr. Blake’s commitment to cultivating open communication channels to further our mission and assure high academic quality in all we do as an institution.
