The Voice, BU Now participate in national College Media Convention
Twenty BU student journalists and their advisers traveled to New York City from March 13 to 15 to join more than 1,200 college journalists for the annual College Media Convention at the Marriott Marquis on Times Square.
There, they had their pick of more than 200 sessions offered by professional journalists, advisers and other students on all aspects of newspapers, online media and magazine production.
Five of these sessions were presented by BU students and faculty.
- Nick Jones, Talia Zangari and Vanessa Pellechio, past and present Opinion Editors on The Voice, presented a session on “Taking out the Gray: Opinion Pages That Get Noticed.”
- BU Now editors and promotion managers Dave Stanwick, Justin McDonald, C.J. Shultz, Christopher Collins, Jeanna Contino, and Kathryn Hochgertel presented “Site Promotions That Connect with Readers and Advertisers.”
- Advisers, Richard Ganahl and Sharon Santus, from BU Now, and Mary Bernath, from The Voice, each presented a session. Their topics focused on how to brand and build traffic for a stand-alone news site, how to tell the difficult stories about a death on campus and how to face the challenge of maintaining professionalism among friends.
