Bloomsburg University Act 101/EOP program brings 140 to campus

BLOOMSBURG— One hundred forty new freshmen students will participate in the Act 101/EOP summer enrichment experience at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania from June 18 through July 28. 

 

Act 101 provides access to higher education for disadvantaged Pennsylvania residents and EOP provides access to students who do not meet the economic guidelines for Act 101. Admission to Bloomsburg University through Act 101/EOP is conditional. Developmental instruction, tutoring, counseling and academic advisement are emphasized to provide students the opportunity for intellectual, social and personal growth, according to Irvin Wright, director of Act 101/EOP at BU.

 

Eligible Act 101/EOP students will be served meals free of charge in Scranton Commons. The BU Act 101/EOP program policy provides that all students have equal access to the benefits of the Summer Food Service Program, regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age (within statutory limits) or challenges. An anticipated $9,000 is expected to be received from the Summer Food Service Program. 

 

Any person who believes he or she has been discriminated against in USDA-related activity should contact the Secretary of Agriculture, Washington, D.C. 20250.

 

Family size and 2005 annual income guidelines for free and reduced price meals are as follows: one person, up to $18,130; two people, up to $24,420; three people, up to $30,710; four people, up to $37,000; five people, up to $43,290; six people, up to $47,580; seven people, up to $55,870; eight people, up to $62,160. For each additional family member, add $6,290 to the income limit.

 

Bloomsburg University is one of 14 universities in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. The university serves approximately 8,000 students and offers 65 bachelor’s, 17 master’s and one doctoral degree.
