Homeless awareness group plans organizational meeting

For Immediate Release

Date:  Oct. 12, 2006

BLOOMSBURG—Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania will host an organizational meeting to form a group to provide assistance to the region's homeless Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 6 p.m. in the Andruss Library, Schweiker Exhibit Room.

This year's resource drive will be the second drive for the homeless in Bloomsburg. Last year, through a more informal effort, the Bloomsburg University community and local area residents donated enough items to fill more than eight carloads and a donated U-haul truck. Donations were distributed to the homeless of the region to help them through the harsh northeast winter.

Resources needed this year include clothing, blankets, sleeping bags, canned goods, toiletries and monetary assistance.

In a related event to be held in connection with National Homeless Awareness Week in November, art and art history professor Gary Clark will give a lecture and slide show, "Essential Humanity," on Wednesday, Nov. 15, a noon in the Kehr Union, Multicultural Center. The event will be open to the public free of charge. The presentation will be sponsored by the Friends of the Bloomsburg University Library.

For more information contact Gary Clark at (570) 389-4352.
