BU Model U.N. sponsors panel discussions

BLOOMSBURG— Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Model United Nations Student Organization will sponsor “The People Speak” starting on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m. in the Andruss Library, Schweiker Room. 

“The People Speak” is a series of panel discussions focusing on awareness of global issues affecting today’s world. The panel discussions, open to the public free of charge, are being presented by students enrolled in the Globalization and United Nations class taught by Diana Zoelle, associate professor of political science. They will be moderated by the BU Model United Nations Student Organization.

“Global Climate Change” will be the first discussion in the series on Wednesday, Oct. 18. This discussion will examine the energy situation and discuss energy sources and the economic impact of choices made about energy. It will also highlight international policy and new views on the climate and energy challenge.

The second topic in the series, “Peace, Security and Human Rights,” will be presented on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at 1 p.m. in the library’s Schweiker Room. This discussion will focus on the United Nations and peacekeeping, as well as recent events that show the changing nature of peace and security challenges. 

The final topic, “The Millennium Development Goals,” will be split into two panel discussions. The first four goals will be addressed on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 1 p.m. in the library’s Schweiker Room; goals five through eight will be discussed on Wednesday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m. in Centennial Hall, room 201.
