First Lecture On Wednesday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. in McCormick Center, room 1303, Richard Paulsen, assistant professor of economics, will speak on universal basic income. Paulsen’s lecture, “Technological Change and Government’s Role in the Economy: A Look at Universal Basic Income” will offer definition and origins of universal basic income, then outline how technological changes and economic circumstances over the past 150 years have led to discussions about the potential need for a universal basic income. He will address the pros and cons of a universal basic income in comparison to existing welfare programs.
