Gerontology Certificate

This program introduces the knowledge necessary for work in the field of gerontology. Courses are designed to provide a core of information in the social and biological sciences and to present content and process knowledge and skills to the student. A minimum of 30 credits is required, some courses carry prerequisites.

Core Block - 18 credits, all courses required:

    PSYCH 101 GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY
    PSYCH 311 ADULTHOOD AND AGING
    BIOLOGY 231 BIOLOGY OF AGING
Content Courses - 6 credits, choose two of the following six courses:
    EXERSCI 321 FIRST AID AND SAFETY
    PHIL 290 MEDICAL ETHICS
    SOC 345 MEDICAL SOCIOLOGY
    PSYCH 210 LIFE SPAN PSYCHOLOGY
    BIOLOGY 205 INTRO TO NUTRITION
    SPECED 101 INTRO TO EXCEPTIONAL INDIVIDUALS
Process Courses - 6 credits, choose two of the following six courses:
    EXERSCI 411 ADAPTIVE PHYSICAL EDUCATION
    SOCWORK 334 SOCIAL WORK WITH INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILY
    SOCWORK 450 SOCIAL WORK WITH SMALL GROUPS

    PSYCH 451 LABORATORY TRAINING IN GROUP PROCESSES
