Meal plan information

All students who live in the residence halls are required to take their meals in the campus dining hall under one of four food service plans during the academic year.

Changing plans

All changes in meal plan agreements require a signature and are done at the Business Office, Waller Administration Building, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

For the fall and spring semesters, downward changes (like going from 19 meals to 14 meals per week) can only be done in the first week of the semester. Upward changes (like going from 14 to 19 meals per week) can be done at any time.

Additions to "flex dollar" accounts, which typically start at $150 cash equivalency, can also be done at any time during the semester. For those who do not have a flex account, a minimum of $100 is required to open one. A minimum of $25 is required to add to accounts, and flex dollars must be paid for in advance. They cannot be billed.

The Business Office accepts cash, checks or credit cards.

One cash equivalency meal equals one board meal. The cash equivalency value of meals is $2.70 for breakfast, $3.70 for lunch, $3.95 for dinner and $3.80 for late night. Meal plans also come with "flex dollars" -- that is, an additional amount of money on their card -- that can be used anytime for snacks or extra meals. The "flex dollars" come in $150 and $200 quantities, and can be added to in any amount at any time by students or parents.

Flex dollars are transferable from fall to spring semesters only; balances at the end of the spring semester cannot be returned. However, BU students have collectively arranged to volunteer any remaining flex dollars to be donated to local charity.

At BU: no shortage of places to eat

Scranton Commons, the primary, serves thousands of meals a day and, is set up scatter-court style for speedy service and great variety. Meals here are all-you-can-eat (try lunch, priced at $6.10 per person for those without a BU I.D.).

Husky Lounge, a busy cafeteria in Scranton Commons, offers a large array of different kinds of meals and snacks. Prices are ala carte and meal-plan holders get the value of the meal (cash equivalency) charged against their meal plan and pay for anything beyond that.

Monty's, which is upscale dining on upper campus, offers basic meals, deli items and high end treats. It is cash equivalency or flex.

Italian Kitchen in Kehr Union offers top-quality pizza and similar items until midnight on a cash-equivalency and flex basis.

Roongo's, in the Student Services Center, is popular for snacks and light lunches, mostly takeout, and has a gourmet coffee service. Meals are flex or cash only.

Starbucks, located in Andruss Library, serves Starbucks brand coffees and snacks to take out or eat in on a flex or cash basis.

Second Street Cafe, in Kehr Union, specializes in exotic coffees from 7:30 a.m. to midnight on a flex or cash basis.

Off-campus food

No college town is complete without favorite hangouts and pizza delivery services, and Bloomsburg is no exception. A number of establishments are fierce competition with each other and you'll find a stack of flyers, menus and phone numbers waiting for you the day you move in. If you don't want it sent to your room, you can walk the short distance into town and find everything imaginable to assault your waistline. And BU offers free late-night shuttle bus service to and from campus to help make sure you get home safely.
