PRP 6555 - Compensatory Time for SUM, Unit II and Civil Service Managers

Issued by: Robert J. Parrish, V.P. for Administration

Effective Date: 08/15/85

Procedures

Compensatory time shall be handled on a "professional" basis. Individuals who are required to perform certain duties outside the normal working hours may be compensated informally (not on a one-for-one basis) by taking appropriate time off as agreed upon with the appropriate manager (SUM). Likewise, individuals who may have had to work late a certain night would not normally be expected to be in early the next morning. The emphasis will be on a professional relationship established between the employee and the supervisor and maintained through the goodwill of both. No centralized records or accounting will be kept. However, keeping the record of compensatory time accumulated and used will be the responsibility of the individual management person.

In general, the following guidelines will be followed when using this accumulated leave time:

1. No more than two days (15 hours) of compensatory time should be taken during any given week. (This guideline may be waived under exceptional circumstances by the appropriate manager.)

2. No more than five days (37 1/2 hours) of compensatory time should be taken during any calendar month.

3. Earned compensatory time should be taken on dates mutually agreed upon by the supervisor and the employee.

4. Compensatory time not taken before termination from University service shall lapse.
