In addition to an assigned adviser to help structure eight semesters of classes to ensure degree requirements are met and to tailor education to a student's specific interests, a variety of academic support services -- all free -- are available to all enrolled at the university.

Day Care for Children - students with children are eligible for use of the Campus Child Center/Kampus Kids Preschool. The center accepts children ages six months to 12 years. The Center for Counseling and Human Development provides individual and group counseling by psychological counselors to students who have personal, social, academic and vocational concerns. Office of Multicultural Affairs increases multicultural understanding and awareness at Bloomsburg University. The Center provides an additional forum for the total education of Bloomsburg University's campus community. It sponsors/co-sponsors programs and activities that focus on the contributions of those individuals who represent diverse cultures at Bloomsburg. SOLVE promotes service to others, experiential education, and part-time employment to stimulate professional development, civic engagement and personal growth in Bloomsburg University students. SOLVE serves as a clearing house for a multi-county community by connecting employers/service providers with student employees/volunteers. Opportunities include: off-campus work study positions; part-time jobs in the local community; volunteer placements to meet community needs; mentoring/tutoring programs in area schools and the Migrant Community Project. Student Health Center is staffed by registered nurses, nurse practioners and part-time physicians. The centeroffers the facilities for a variety of health exams, tests and screenings. Professional services and over-the-counter medical supplies used in the center are covered by the Health Center fee. Academic Internships are available in every major from more than 750 companies, agencies and organizations. Students generally do an internship during their junior or senior year. Internships are for academic credit, may be paid employment or volunteer and may be full or part-time for the duration of the semester or summer term. Academic Advisement, a resource for all students, handles all changes of degree programs and service as the adviser for all undeclared students and adult students through its non-degree and adult student office. Accommodative Services offers a wide range of activities designed to support and enhance the performance of students with disabilities. Services include, but are not limited to: provision of accommodative testing, note takers, scribes, interpreters, readers, auxiliary aides, adaptive equipment, and liaison between students and faculty in classroom accommodations. The office also serves as an advocate for the student in issues of accommodation beyond the classroom, and acts as a liaison with other campus offices. Act 101/Educational Opportunity Program students receive special support in instruction, academic advising, counseling, tutoring, financial aid advising and other assistance as necessary in maximizing their opportunity for success in college. Students admitted through this program take diagnostic tests to ensure correct placement in classes and most new students participate in a summer program prior to the first semester of their attendance where special assistance in tutoring and counseling is given to address specific academic, financial, and social needs. Developmental Instruction provides academic advisement, instruction, tutoring, and other support to assist students in their academic endeavors and to maximize their potential for success in college, especially those students that enter through Act 101 and EOP. Success in college is defined as achievement of academic good standing and graduation. Services include credit and developmental courses in reading, writing, and mathematics; developmental laboratories, professional tutorial assistance, and advisement. International Education Office advises and counsels international students on personal, intercultural, and academic matters while they are completing their academic programs at BU; prepares BU students for student teaching, internships, and employment opportunities abroad; assists international students with immigration, housing, health insurance, and on and off campus employment; facilitates intercultural exchange through cultural activities and events organized by various international clubs and associations on campus; and clarifies expectations of international students between their homes and American culture through various cross-cultural, community outreach activities. Office of Diversity and Retention develops, coordinates and implements programs and services to assist students of color in achieving their educational goals. Office of the Registrar is responsible for student scheduling and registration for undergraduate and graduate students, commencement, transcripts, academic classroom scheduling, undergraduate degree clearance, enrollment verifications, issuing military credit and veterans affairs, and evaluating transfer credits. Student Support Services serves a select group of students who have completed the application process and have met eligibility criteria established by the government. Services available to program participants include free professional tutoring by individuals with master's degrees in their fields, special interest workshops, mentoring, individual and group counseling as needed, academic advisement and advocacy, and cultural/recreational opportunities. University Honors Program encourages students to explore opportunities for post-graduate work and professional study. New freshmen applying for admission to the program must have a minimum of 1100 SAT and rank in the top 20 percent of their high school class. University Tutorial Services offers assistance designed to support and enhance the performance of university students. Peer tutoring is available upon request in a variety of courses and is provided by students who have distinguished themselves by superior academic performance.
