Transferring to Bloomsburg

Transfer applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 to be considered. Due to the large number of applicants, a GPA of 2.5 is preferable and is required for the Communication Studies, Exercise Science, Mass Communications and Nursing majors. The Education major requires a minimum GPA of 3.0 for consideration.

All transfer candidates must have their high school transcript or GED sent to the Admissions Office. These official documents must be sent to the Admissions Office from the high school guidance office or Department of Education. Official college transcripts from each college attended must be sent to the BU Admissions Office from each college's registrar's office. SAT or ACT scores are required for students who have not completed 24 credits.

Applicants who have earned more than 24 credits will be evaluated for admission based on their college transcripts. Students who have not completed 24 credits at the college level will be evaluated on their high school and college transcripts. It will be necessary for students with less than 24 credits to meet the minimum admissions guidelines for freshman. Upon completion of 24 credits, SATs or ACTs are not required.

Articulation Agreements

Bloomsburg University has articulation agreements with the following community Colleges:

Harrisburg Area Community College

Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology

Montgomery County Community College

Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology

Northampton Community College

Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology

Luzerne County Community College

Transfer Credit Evaluations

An evaluation will be made of the courses that will transfer to Bloomsburg.

A maximum of 60 credits will be accepted from a two year college and a total of 90 credits will transfer from a four year institution. Credits earned at a college or institution which does not hold accreditation by "Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools/Commission on Higher Education" or its regional equivalent, will not transfer.

The Academic Passport between the PA Community Colleges and The State System of Higher Education Universities, allows for the transfer of courses where the grades of "C-''and "D" are earned, provided the overall GPA is above 2.0. Courses taken at other institutions where a grade of "C-"or lower is earned will not transfer to Bloomsburg University. Bloomsburg will not accept credits earned by examination at other colleges. The university accepts CLEP general exams taken prior to enrolling at BU. CLEP subject examinations may be taken prior to or after enrolling at the university.

Transfer students with an associate degree can normally expect to complete the baccalaureate degree in two years, depending on the major.

Housing

Transfer students are not guaranteed housing on campus. Questions regarding housing may be addressed by calling the Residence Life Office at 570-389-4089.

Financial Aid

Financial aid for transfer students will not automatically transfer to Bloomsburg University from the previous school. Transfer students should contact the Office of Financial Aid to insure that all financial aid forms have been received in order to process their aid. Evaluation of transfer credits must be completed before financial aid can be finalized. Federal regulations require that first time Federal Stafford Loan recipients at Bloomsburg University must complete entrance counseling requirements before receiving their loan funds. This must be completed on the web site: www.bloomu.edu/aid.

Additional information

It is the transfer applicant's responsibility to contact the high school guidance office and the registrar's office of each college attended to request official transcripts. Your official transcripts should be sent directly from the issuing source to the Admissions Office at Bloomsburg University.
