College Level Examination Program

Bloomsburg University participates in the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) of the College Entrance Examination Board. CLEP enables Bloomsburg University to grant course credit for scores earned on written examinations provided by CEEB/ETS. www.collegeboard.com/clep. Official CLEP transcripts must be sent to the Office of the Registrar directly from the testing center.

Obtaining CLEP Transcripts

If you did not indicate a score recipient institution at the time of your exam and you want to request your CLEP scores, you can do so by ordering a CLEP Transcript. This Transcript is a cumulative score report of all the CLEP exams you have taken and the scores you earned in the last 20 years. To obtain a CLEP Transcript:

Download the Transcript Request Form (.pdf/35k). Requires Adobe Acrobat Reader (latest version recommended). Requires Adobe Acrobat Reader (latest version recommended). Mail the completed form with your payment to CLEP to the address on the form.

Or call (800) 257-9558 if ordering with a credit card. Please provide your name (at testing time), date of birth, social security number, exam title(s), test date, testing location/center, and where you want your scores to be sent.

The are two types of CLEP examinations:

General examinations. The general examinations cover the broad areas of English composition/essay, humanities, college mathematics, natural sciences, and social sciences and history. The General exams may only be taken before a student earns any college credits.

Subject examinations. The subject examinations cover selected courses and may be taken prior to enrolling at Bloomsburg University or during the period of enrollment.

Enrolled undergraduate students are able to earn a maximum of 30 credits toward a degree if they can meet or exceed the score requirements. A scaled score of at least the 50th percentile is required for credit to be awarded. Bloomsburg University may award up to six credits for each of the general examinations and three credits for each subject examination except for the various composition examinations for which no credit is awarded. A listing of the various CLEP examinations, the 50th percentile scaled scores and the Bloomsburg University is listed below.

Limitations on CLEP Credit

If results of both the general examinations and the subject examinations are submitted for identical areas, duplicate credit will not be awarded.

The student's official transcript will carry a notation of credit earned, but no grade shall be awarded.

A student may not receive CLEP credit for a course in which he or she is currently registered or for a course in which a passing grade previously was earned, or as a course repeat.

Use of the CLEP tests permits Bloomsburg University to provide the well-prepared student with opportunities to demonstrate competence in areas of intellectual concern covered in basic courses, to receive credit in these areas and to enroll in advanced courses earlier.
