Graduate Record Examination (GRE)

The GRE General Test is used for admission to many graduate programs. It is a computer-based test composed of two writing tasks plus one or two verbal sections and one or two quantitative (mathematical) sections. Some graduate programs may also require a GRE Subject Test. These are paper-based and cover eight subject areas. Check with your graduate program to see which tests are required for admission.

The GRE General Test is available as a computer-based test (CBT) only. BU is NOT a computer-based testing center for this exam. Visit the GRE Web site for a computer-based testing center close to you. BU does administer the paper/pencil GRE SUBJECT exams. Please register online at the GRE Web site.
