Student Affairs

Admissions

Introduces students to the university through school visits and open house programs. Informs applicants to the university of programs available to them and aids transfer students. See Web site for more information.

Career Development Center

Provides career counseling and planning services to all students. Also coordinates both on- and off-campus job fairs. See Web site for more information.

Center for Counseling and Human Development

Provides individual and group counseling by psychological counselors to students who have personal, social, academic and vocational concerns. See Web site for more information.

Conference Services

BU is an ideal location for meetings, summer camps, special events and conferences. We host events year-round with housing available on campus during the summer months and at local hotels during the academic year. Experienced event planners assist with logistical arrangements, obtain the services of appropriate campus support personnel and provide on-site assistance during your event.

Community Activities

Administers the finances of the Community Government Association (CGA), Recreation Center, the Kehr Union, Student Activities, the University Store and student organizations. See Web site for more information.

Campus Child Center

Students with children are eligible for use of the Campus Child Center/Kampus Kids Preschool, which accepts children ages six months to 12 years. Fees vary depending on service. Hours are 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m., year-round, on days BU is open. A summer camp program is also offered. See Web site for more information.

DAWN (Drug and Alcohol Awareness Network)

Provides programs designed to help students make informed decisions about risky behaviors, particularly those associate with drug and alcohol use. See Web site for more information.

Dining Services

Manages all food outlets on campus, including the Scranton Commons, the Husky Lounge in the Kehr Union, Roongo's in the Student Services Center, Andruss Cafe in the library and Monty's on the upper campus. See Web site for more information.

Greek Affairs

Works to help provide a safe and enriching experience for students interested in joining a fraternity or sorority. See Web site for more information.

Intramurals

The purpose of the Intramural Sports Program is to enhance participant fitness, personal skills and enjoyment by providing opportunities for cooperative and competitive play. The Program also offers opportunities for leadership, management, program planning and interpersonal skills as they relate to intramurals and recreational programs. The Intramural Sports Program is a part of the Community Government Association and the Student Life Program at Bloomsburg University. See Web site for more information.

Kehr Union

In addition to offices and facilities for a variety of student services listed below, Kehr Union offers an array of meeting rooms available to students for many purposes, including club meetings and group study. The building also houses a ballroom with a capacity of 500 persons for dances and banquets. See Web site for more information.

Quest

Modeled on the international Outward Bound program, Quest provides students with opportunities for outdoor adventure. Weekend courses in areas such as rock climbing and kayaking are offered, as well as extended trips to wildness areas of the United States and other countries. Quest also offers leadership and teambuilding experiences for student groups and others. See Web site for more information.

Multicultural Affairs

The Multicultural Center, located in Kehr Union, focuses on increasing the multicultural understanding and awareness at BU. The center provides an additional forum for the total education of BU's campus community. It sponsors/co-sponsors programs and activities that focus on the contributions of those individuals who represent diverse cultures at BU. The center also serves as a central coordinating center for cultural programming. See Web site for more information.

Off-Campus Housing

Provides information resources for students living off-campus or considering moving off-campus. Hosts the annual Off-Campus Housing Fair that brings local landlords, town officials and safety personnel to campus to help educate students about living in the Bloomsburg area. Orientation

Orientation is required of all new students and provides an opportunity for students to become familiar with the campus, meet students and faculty, to gain an understanding of academic policies and to be informed of the services offered at the university. See Web site for more information.

Residence Life

Oversees the university's on-campus housing, including both apartments and residence halls. Also coordinates dining services. See Web site for more information.

Student Activities

Program Board coordinates and plans student-oriented events on campus, including movies, performing artists, contests and games, and dances. Also involved in the planning for homecoming, parents and family weekend and Renaissance Jamboree. See Web site for more information.

Student Standards

Promotes a comfortable and safe living environment, primarily through the administration of the Student Code of Conduct, which represents Bloomsburg's behavioral expectations for students. The office also offers mediation services.

Student Health Center

Staffed by registered nurses, nurse practitioners and part-time physicians, the Health Center offers the facilities for a variety of health exams, tests and screenings. Professional services and over-the-counter medical supplies used in the center are covered by the Health Center fee. Laboratory, X-ray and other services provided by the Bloomsburg Hospital are not covered by the fee. See Web site for more information.

Student Recreation Center

Located across from the tennis courts on Swisher Circle, Student Recreation Center has five major activity areas: multi-use courts (basketball, volleyball and tennis), fitness room, weight room, racquetball courts and multipurpose room. See Web site for more information.

University Store

The University Store, operated by the BU’s student government, Community Government Association, is located between Second Street and Luzerne Hall. The University store also operates an online store. The philosophy of the University Store is to provide necessary academic and educational support materials to the students, faculty and staff of Bloomsburg University. The store also provides personal essentials to support the lifestyle and needs of the campus community. See Web site for more information.

University Testing

The testing center maintains applications and information about the PRAXIS series examinations for teachers and serves as an administration site for the Miller Analogies Test (MAT), Graduate Record Exam (GRE) paper-based specialty exams and Test of Spoken English (TSE).
