Why Diversity
Societal changes are occurring at an accelerating pace. These changes have affected and will continue to impact the economic, political, and social environments of the Commonwealth and the nation. All BU students must be prepared to live and work in this increasingly diverse society.
Persons of color, women, the disabled, and other historically under-represented individuals continue to comprise a larger segment of the labor market and the general population.
To meet these essential societal needs, BU will increase the participation of historically under-represented individuals on campus so all students have the skills and knowledge to contribute to state and national societies and economies. Most importantly, diversity on campus helps students, faculty, and staff members to develop an awareness and value the richness of diversity.
BU also supports diversity, because it's the right thing to do. As an institution of higher education, BU encourages an understanding and appreciation of people whose ideas and practices should be included rather than excluded.
BU serves the needs of all students. To achieve this goal, BU assertively recruits and strives to retain students, faculty, and staff members from historically under-represented populations
