BLOOMSBURG—The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) honored two members of the Bloomsburg University baseball team for their play this season. Named second team All-PSAC were Jason Helcoski (Jessup/Valley View) and Brian Martin (Macungie/Emmaus).
Helcoski, a junior, was named a second team All-PSAC first baseman after leading the team in several offensive categories. Helcoski led the team in batting average (.401), homers (7), runs batted in (39), hits (57), slugging percentage (.648) and walks (29). He was also third in runs scored (27) and in doubles (10). Helcoski was also solid in the field, leading the starters with a .985 fielding percentage, committing just five errors in 327 chances.
Among the game highlights for Helcoski was driving in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning against East Stroudsburg on April 19. He also hit a three-run homer in the top of the seventh inning against Shepherd College to lift the Huskies to a 3-2 win March 25.
Martin, a sophomore, hit .397 for the Huskies and was second in homers (4), hits (52), doubles (12) and slugging percentage (.611), while leading team in runs scored (36). The outfielder was also solid in the field with a .953 fielding percentage making just two errors in 43 chances.
Among the big games for Martin were a 3-4 with two runs scored and two RBI in a 12-9 win over New Jersey Institute of Technology March 15 and a 2-3 with two runs scored, two RBI and a home run against Kutztown in a season-ending 10-5 loss.
Bloomsburg finished the season 16-32, 3-21 in the PSAC Eastern Division.
